Frequently asked questions
HOW HIGH, HOW FAR AND HOW FAST CAN THE DRONE GO?
We are legally bound to work within the limits imposed by the CAA. But this does not mean we cannot get truly spectacular aerial footage or photos! Quite the opposite. The UAV can travel up to 400 feet/120 meters in height and 500 metres away from the pilot (always in line of sight), giving a 1000 metre radius to work within, which is ample. The drone can fly at speeds of up to 45mph!
HOW LONG DOES THE DRONE FLY FOR?
Our aerial drone system can fly for around 30 minutes on a single battery, however for safety reasons we like to land at around the 20 minute mark. We carry two drones and multiple batteries pre-charged and ready to go, enabling a longer flight time. We are able to recharge if there is a power supply nearby too.
ARE YOU INSURED?
Yes. We are fully insured for the commercial use of our drone and associated equipment. We also have public liability cover for up to £1 million which can be increased if a particular job demands it.
WHAT ABOUT SAFETY?
Safety is our number one priority at AS Aerial Media. Our pilots are CAA approved and registered, and we use the latest in UAV technology to ensure the safest possible operations. Every mission we fly is preceded by an online check of the suitability of the location, including potential hazards and airspace classification. This will be followed up by an on site survey and risk assessment carried out by the pilot prior to flying.
WHAT IF WE HAVE BAD WEATHER ON THE DAY?
We monitor the weather forecast 48 hours in advance of any shoot. If the weather is not good we talk to you prior to the planned day.
If we both decide to stay with the shoot day and we have some bad weather, our pilot will wait as long as possible in the hope of a break in the clouds. If we need to re-schedule your shoot date because of bad weather your booking deposit will be transferred to a new shoot date. We are as flexible as possible to ensure that bookings can be rearranged to suite your needs
